Bedford Fields is a leading home and garden center located in Bedford N.H. We love what we do and are looking for enthusiastic, garden center assistant manager with a positive can-do attitude.

  • Work with existing manager and employees on a daily basis selling, maintaining and re-stocking our inventory of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs and houseplants.

  • Maintenance of plant material on a daily basis (watering, pruning, fertilizing).

  • Set up merchandise displays as required by season.

  • Working with retail clients on a daily basis listening to their needs and making highly informed recommendations of plant material to them.

  • Ability to learn and use a Point-of-Sale System.

  • Willingness to work in an outdoor environment and perform lifting of plant material.

  • Assist Manager with procurement and receiving of all plant material on a daily basis.

  • Assist in the management of all inventory Coordinating deliveries of selected plant material as required.

  • Promote all services that our company has to offer.

  • Two or four-year degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a Minimum of 3 years of active Retail Garden Center Sales experience with a proven track record.

  • Profound knowledge of Zone 5 plant material.

  • Job requires applicant to possess the ability to lift up to 40lbs.

  • Ability to work independently and willingness to learn the industry from seasoned professionals.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends / holidays during the spring and fall seasons.

This is a full-time hourly position with medical benefits, IRA with employer contribution, paid vacation and personal days.

Cashier / Sales Associate

The primary function of this position include welcoming clients with a cheerful attitude, processing sales transactions, assisting in determining and choosing their products and labor and product maintenance. Will perform a variety of duties including but not limited to answering the telephone, performing cashier duties, receiving, pricing and displaying of products. Shifts Open: Monday - Friday 3-5 and weekends 10 -5. Approximately 20-25 hours per week.  Great for high school student

Essential Functions
  • Effectively use a cash register and collect and exchange money using Counterpoint.

  • Have a reasonable knowledge of our products and its whereabouts while being able to effectively communicate this product information to our customers.

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of products including replenishing items and moving items.

  • Light housekeeping (sweep, wipe, and clean.)

  • Engage and support customers in selecting items, answering questions and checking them out efficiently.

  • Stay current on our sales, discounts and special promotions.

  • Effectively able to demonstrate solid customer service skills when working with our customers, especially if there is a customer problem or concern.

  • Accept assignments either at register or out on the general floor (Any department.)

  • Assist customers with loading product into carts or into vehicles.

Salary Offered:

Full Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Greet and assist retail customers in a welcoming and professional manner.

  • Keep plants watered and healthy

  • Assist customers in finding the right plant for the right location

  • Assist customers to understand proper plant care & maintenance

  • Unloading trucks, restocking, organizing & rotating inventory & displays

  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment in and around the garden center.

  • Knowledge of southern N.H. plant material, green industry experience and/or a degree in Horticulture, Master Gardener, a plus

  • Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Must be willing to work some weekend days and in all weather conditions during the peak season .

  • Some overtime may be required

  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs on a consistent basis

Salary Offered:

$13.00 to $16.00 per hour, to commensurate with skill set and experience. Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays as required.
